Enniskillen Cricket Club hosted Belfast Malayali Association 2nds on Saturday last in a return to league action in the Northern Cricket Union Section 10.
Unfortunately after the highs of the cup victory the weekend previous the home team could not replicate that level of performance and succumbed to a seven-wicket defeat.
BMA won the toss and put Enniskillen into bat and very soon the home team found themselves reduced to 34/4 by an extremely accurate and effective bowling attack.
However, Thuwan Puthra coming in at six started the recovery with some hard-hitting and aided by similar cameos from Chris McVitty (15) and Darshan Nair (17 n.o.) managed to get the score up to 136/9 at the end of the allotted overs.
Puthra was unfortunate to miss out on his maiden 50 for the club having made 46 but his hard-hitting innings had given the bowlers something to bowl at.
After the tea interval when the home team went into bowl, they needed an early breakthrough.
Although several opportunities were created by the opening bowlers none were taken.
However, two quick wickets, one each from Kenny Maxwell and Bibin Matthew, gave the local team renewed hope that they could defend the total.
But try as they might the third wicket partnership from BMA proved the match-winning one and they comfortably got to their target whilst only losing one more wicket.
A disappointing performance from Enniskillen who were 30 runs short when they batted and the fielding and bowling did not match the standard set over the previous two weeks.
Unfortunately, sports in general and cricket in particular can be a cruel game and the team must dust themselves down.
After a week's break, they will take on a double-header against Armagh in the cup on Saturday, June 22 and a league match against Ardent Blues in Belfast the following day.
The team were bitterly disappointed by their performance but equally determined to put things right when they next take to the field.
