It was a week to remember for Enniskillen Skins rugby player, Lucy Thompson, who was part of the first-ever Ireland University Sevens side to take part at the FISU World University Championships 2024.
Thompson, who captained Skins to a Junior Cup triumph earlier in the year, was part of the Irish squad that finished seventh overall at the tournament in Aix-en-Provence, France from June 10-12.
In their first game, Ireland lost 45-7 to Canada and this was followed by a 31-0 defeat by Australia.
But on the second day, they bounced back with a 27-12 win over India before falling 25-5 to France.
This meant they would go into the 7th/8th place play-off where they faced Poland and they won this convincingly 43-0.
Thompson was delighted to be involved in the tournament and felt the team were improving in each match.
"An amazing experience getting to play rugby over in France last week," she said.
"Heading over we knew the teams in our pool were always going to be tough but we were ready for the challenge.
"It was a new experience for me and I enjoyed every second of it. The first ever Ireland University Sevens team to take part in the World University Rugby Championships so it was a special group to be a part of."
