Fermanagh native Isaac Johnston is on his way to Euro 2024 after winning a competition to be a mascot for the tournament.

The 10-year-old entered a competition held by LIDL to walk out alongside some of football's biggest stars and was selected to his and his family’s delight.

Isaac will make the trip, with his dad Lee, to Düsseldorf at the weekend and will walk out at the Merkur Spiel-Arena for Spain vs Albania on Monday evening in the final round of fixtures in Group B.

The football-mad youngster, who plays football for Lisbellaw United, has taken a strong interest in Spain and Albania since hearing the news revealed his dad and has been keeping well up to date with the games so far in Germany.

“He’s over the moon,” said Lee.

“We just went on the LIDL app, I don’t know, maybe a couple of months ago for a competition to be a mascot at one of the Euro 2024 games. We got confirmation about winning it then.

"So it’s the Spain vs Albania game, I think the kids will do a bit of preparation and rehearsal on the Monday afternoon, and then they walk out with the players.”

Spain sit top of the group after last night's (Thursday) 1-0 win over Italy and a opening victory over Croatia.

Albania reside in third after a 2-1 defeat to the Italians but bounced back with a dramatic 95th minute goal to snatch a draw with Croatia on Wednesday.
