Derrylin 1-02 Enniskillen Gaels 7-19

Enniskillen Gaels swept aside a depleted Derrylin at O’Connell Park last week with the return of the county players as Conor Love, Callum Jones and Conor McShea all bagged two goals each.

The Gaels picked up a point from the Club Players’ Competition when they defeated Belcoo 0-16 to 2-08 on a rainy night in Brewster Park.

Group 2B of the Club Players’ Competition kicked off with the Gaels defeating the O’Connell’s in Enniskillen by four points but a rejuvenated squad meant their margin of victory was a whole lot greater this time around.

“Look Derrylin were massively short, so, we have to bear that in mind, but it was very clinical from our players,” said Gaels boss Simon Bradley.

“We have the same issues now that every other team has with lads going on holiday every week, so, the squad is going to be well-tested with the reserve games normally within 24 hours of the league games.

"I don’t understand why they don’t give 24 hours between the reserve and the senior games. I don’t get that, but anyway, it’s going to test the squad depth now between holidays and trying to compete in the two competitions.”

Enniskillen took a 4-09 to 0-01 lead in at half-time with Love, Jones and McShea finding the net with points also coming from Love, Jones, Ethan Beresford and Ross Bogue to put them in a commanding position.

It was more of the same in the second half as well-worked team moves saw the Gaels find another three goals as Codi Halligan also added his name to the scoresheet on Friday.

Love ended the contest with 2-06 with further points coming from him, Jones, Beresford and McShea while Richie O’Callaghan also kicked a fine score.

Diarmuid Owens registered a consolation goal for Derrylin in a one-sided game. Sean Donnelly’s side will hope to turn their fortunes around when they take on Roslea at Shamrock Park on Friday.

Meanwhile, Enniskillen Gaels host Ederney at Brewster Park.

“We had a very hard game against them a couple of weeks ago in the Club Players’ Competition, but if they had their full 15 out, they’d give anybody a game as well,” Bradley added.

“There’s no easy games in this league. None. So, we’re expecting a very tough game on Friday night.”
