Enniskillen Tennis Club continued their bright start to the tournament season with players winning 15 titles over singles, doubles and mixed doubles tournament wins so far.

Eve Callaghan has taken four of those titles, with her biggest prize coming last weekend in the Ulster Open held at the Belfast Boat Club. She made her return to the championship after winning it last year.

A bye in the first round was followed by a fantastic set of performances in the quarter-final and semi-final with a 6/1, 6/2 victory over number three seed Fiona Morrow to book her spot in the final where Callaghan faced Ballymena player Kerri Russell.

She made a fast start taking the first two games with some good footwork and brilliant backhand strokes.

The experienced Ballymena player fought back and took the next four games and was one point away from going 5/2 up but the Enniskillen player came back and won 6/4 to take the first set.

She would go on to win the second set 6/3 after breaking Russell’s serve at 3/3 and 4/3.

Her coach Matthew McGann and clubmate Clive Funston also competed in the tournament in the men’s 50s singles and doubles.

They were coming off the back of recent success with McGann winning a 50s doubles event in Dublin.

Meanwhile, Funston was successful in a singles 50s win and a doubles 45s victory in Galway as well as a doubles 40s title in Naas before that.

The pair were the number two seeds going into the tournament and booked their place in the final without dropping a set.

After winning the first set 6/1, the second went to a tiebreak but the Enniskillen pair held their nerve, taking both the set and title.
