Clogher Valley Rugby Club’s David Sharkey continued his well-known off-season challenges by completing the seven Olympic Triathlons in seven days for charity.
The rugby star swam 1.5km, cycled 40km and ran 10 km every day for seven days to raise funds and awareness of the charity Friends of Cancer, alongside an army of supporters each day.
He was also joined by several different participants on each day.
“Having someone with me was a huge help,” said David.
“Along with the help from the support team of Trevor and Helen Mills, they kept the food coming and ensured someone was there to do the event with me”.
David added: “Wednesday and Thursday were the toughest days, the legs were getting tired, and the energy levels were low.
"Whilst the cycle on the last day was tough, I did my fastest swim in 30 minutes on day seven.
"I was able to maintain a steady 10 minute miles on the run, I had to make sure I would not burn out by trying to run faster.”
He will take a few days off to recover with next year’s rugby campaign only around the corner.
“I have taken on the role of second team captain,” he said. “It is going to be a tough season and we need to be ready.”
He is also planning his next charity event for 2025. £4,500 has been raised so far for the local charity through the Just Giving page ‘7inseven.’
