With a century of points scored and scores like 2-18 and 8-17 racked up in their last two matches of their All-Ireland Junior Championship group stage, Fermanagh Ladies manager, CJ McGourty is quite content with where his team are so far.

Topping Group A set up a semi-final with Limerick, a repeat of last year's last four encounter which Limerick came out on top of.

Following last Sunday's hammering of London, it is 10 days until Fermanagh take a tilt at Limerick and with four games under the belt, an another unbeaten run, McGourty has been satisfied with how things are going for his side.

It was three games in seven days for Fermanagh and with it three wins.

Following last Wednesday's victory over Derry, McGourty and his players were somewhat disappointed with their performance. But they put any lingering thoughts of that to bed in their dismantling of London.

"It was a hard one because we had three games in seven days," explained McGourty.

"But the other thing is, I'm a big fan of playing games and if we had rested a few, it would have meant that come the semi-final players wouldn’t have played for 17 or 18 days.

"There were a few bumps and bruises but anyone that was fit and raring to go played on Sunday. Because I just like them to be match sharp and I thought the ideal scenario was two weeks break. I didn’t want it to go to a three-week break or two-and-a-half-week break. It keeps them on their toes as well in terms of team selection.

"We didn’t take our foot off the gas and we probably needed a better performance than what we had on Wednesday night and that was another reason why we played a lot of our tried and trusted."

Looking at the group stage overall, McGourty said his side "motored alright".

"The girls were a wee bit disappointed on Wednesday night we only won by five or six points and Derry were in front. But I said to them it is good to get that test, it is good for competitive games.

"Derry were always improving. The narrative was we should be beating them handy but that’s not the way championship football works. If you look at the week before Carlow beat them by a point.

"I was happy with Wednesday night even though our performance wasn’t great. We found a way to win and it was good to get that challenge and competitive game under our belt.

"They were a wee bit disappointed with the performance but as I said to them it was a four-game process we won all four games."

McGourty continued: "Were we brilliant in all four games? Probably not. Were we good at times? Absolutely.

"And that's just championship. There are twists and turns everywhere you look.

As a four-game process, we're delighted as a management team and we topped the group and we have a very competitive game against Limerick coming up.

"It’s a 50-50 challenge like any semi-final is but we are there and we are still in with a shout of winning it and that’s the main thing."

One aspect of Fermanagh's game that cannot be faulted is their scoring prowess.

A potent forward himself, it pleased McGourty to see his side scoring heavily.

"It's something that I looked at even when I took the job and went for the interview. They were averaging 12 points and conceding 13. There was very little in it.

"We are conceding a wee bit more than last year but we are also scoring a hell of a lot more. We work on shooting a lot of nights at training. That's the type of game I like playing.

"That's been one positive. We are creating a lot of chances we are scoring 60-70 per cent and we'll try to improve that again

"We are well aware that come semi-finals and finals you mightn't get as many goal chances. You have to take everything that comes your way.

"When we hit that purple patch against teams we have to be ruthless. Overall,  1-16 against Carlow, 2-18 against Derry and 8-17 [against London] is serious at county level."
