Derrygonnelly 4-12 Belnaleck 0-08
Four first-half goals set Derrygonnelly on their way to three wins from three in Division 1 so far this season as they sit top of the tree with nine points.
Goals from Gary McKenna, Oisin Smyth, Garvan Jones and Shane McGullion gave the Harps a commanding lead 4-08 to 0-03 lead at halftime.
Manager Paul Greene was delighted to see his players secure another win with Derrylin up next on Friday.
“We got a few fortunate goals which gave us a good foothold in the game. The second half was a lot tighter between the teams but it was good to get the win.
"We’re looking forward now to Friday night and Derrylin will bring a different challenge as I’m sure is the case with every club.
"Our panel is being well tested with so many junior games and senior games every weekend.”
It was Daniel Kille’s side's first loss of the league campaign after opening wins over Erne Gaels and Devenish as they also lost defender Ché Cullen to a red card in the second half.
“We now face Kinawley which is another tough challenge of many you face in Division 1, especially when you're coming off a tough result the week previous,” said Kille looking ahead to Friday’s game.
“But look you can't dwell on that, we will do our best to get ready for the challenge that lies ahead on Friday and prepare in the best possible way to look for an improvement to our performance.”
Gary McKenna grabbed the opening goal for the home side on Sunday as a turnover in the Belnaleck defence saw the forward finish neatly.
Oisin Smyth grabbed the second goal after a good move allowed him to drift in behind the opposition defence before receiving the ball and into the top right corner of the net.
McKenna, Garvan Jones, Gareth McGovern and Ryan Jones all added points to push their side well ahead while Bryan Owens and Darragh McGurn clawed back scores for the travelling side.
A third goal from Garvan Jones put the result beyond doubt when a well-worked move in the corner saw the ball worked out to the forward and he dummied past his man before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Another turnover on the 40-yard line allowed Shane McGullion to race in and a fourth goal.
Points in the second half from both Jones’, Niall McGovern and Shane and Stephen McGullion closed out the win despite Glenn Treacy, Eamon Greene and Ronan and Darragh McGurn pointing at the other end.
