Fermanagh swimmer, Luke Lannon, representing Longford Swim Club, enjoyed a successful 2024 Swim Ireland Irish Summer National Age Group Championships at the University of Limerick Sports Arena, Limerick last week.

The 13 year old qualified for seven events for the summer nationals in this year's age group.

Over four days of racing, Luke competed in five events and reached one final.

Although Luke is only 13, he has shown incredible progress competing in the 14-year-old category, which led to great success over the championship week.

Luke’s first event, the 200m Freestyle, saw him achieve an impressive four-second PB, finishing in a time of 2.21.37. He followed this success by competing in the 200m Backcrawl, where he qualified for the B final and finished with a three-second PB.

The 400m Freestyle saw Luke break the five-minute mark with a super-long course PB of six seconds, finishing in a time of 4.47.35s.

Although new to long-course racing, Luke has seen considerable success in the 800m and 1,500m Freestyle this season.

A determined swim in the 800m freestyle saw him achieve a 17-second PB, finishing as the 9th fastest 14 year old in Ireland.

Luke's highlight of the week was an incredible 35 seconds PB in the 1,500m Freestyle, where he finished as the 3rd fastest National 14 year old, achieving the bronze medal at 19.24.30.

Not only did Luke achieve a coveted podium finish, but Luke was also presented with two certificates for his impressive personal best times throughout the championship.

Luke's hard work and the support and guidance of swim coaches Ronan McNevin, and Barry Hall and local strength and conditioning coach Keira Elliot have all contributed to his success at this prestigious championship.
