Roslea 1-06 Erne Gaels 2-09

Two very well-crafted goals in the opening half were the key scores in his hard-fought affair played in pristine conditions in Roslea.

In-form Aogan Kelm and Martin Gilfedder grabbed the three-pointers to push the visitors into a 2-05 to 0-03 lead at the break.

But it was a much-improved home side who came out in the second half and they outscored their opponents by 1-03 to 0-04 as well as hitting six wides from very scorable slots.

However, the winners were struck a big blow when powerful midfielder Michael Óg McGarrigle was forced off with a hamstring injury just 14 minutes into the match.

Roslea’s outstanding Brian Maguire pretty much ruled this sector in a match the Gaels never looked like losing.

Kelm hit the net after a flowing move in the second minute and Oisin Kelm, Shane Rooney and Dan McCann made it 1-03 to 0-00 before veteran Niall Cosgrove hit the home side’s opening point.

McCann and Cosgrove and Roslea keeper Conor Mulligan swapped points as Martin Gilfedder got Belleek’s second goal to leave them in a healthy lead of 2-05 to 0-03 at the break.

Roslea hit back with a converted penalty from Shane Lynch early in the second half as Maguire got on quite an amount of possession in midfield and weighed in with two points.

But the Gaels, who seemed to get frees much easier than Roslea, hit back with points from Aogan Kelm, Greg McGloin and Shane Rooney to seal the deal.

Happy Erne Gaels boss, Declan Bonner said he was “pleased with the first half display".

“That’s three wins on the trot so we are gradually building momentum.

“But we got a bit sloppy after the break and that is something we will be looking at.

“Younger players like Dan McCann made a big impression and we have a fair bit of pace in this side.

“But we are now focusing on getting two more points against Belcoo."

It was another good win for Belleek on the back of a dominant victory over Ederney last Friday, 0-16 to 1-05.

The winners were on top in all departments and were well worth their halftime lead of 0-08 to 0-04.

An outgunned Ederney did rally with an early second-half goal which left a point in the game.

But with Aogan Kelm leading the line Ederney were stretched in defence and the home side cantered home.

For an impressive Belleek side, Kelm hit four points including a sublime effort with the left foot after a great run from midfield.

The returning Shane Rooney was also in top form and also hit 0-04 including a free as all of the remaining 15 scores came from play.

Gregory McGloin and Rooney had the Gaels 0-02 to 0-00 by the 13th minute.

This was followed by a glut of points from Oisin and Aogan Kelm (0-03) and Barry McCann.

Ederney replied through Pól McKervey, Paul McCusker, Chris Snow (45) and Snow added another pointed free.

The visitors hit the net from McKervey which narrowed the gap to two points on the resumption.

But Ederney’s Owen McKervey picked up a black card as the home side tacked on points from Rooney, Aogan Kelm, Odhran Johnston, Dan McCann and Ultan O’Reilly to seal victory.
