Kinawley 2-13 Derrylin 1-07
Kinawley continued their impressive start to Division One with two wins on Friday and Tuesday evening in two local derbies.
On Friday, they saw off Belnaleck by a single point as Tomás Corrigan landed a free kick in injury time to take all two points in a close-fought game.
They backed that up with another win, this time at home to Derrylin during the midweek round of fixtures.
Two first-half goals set the Brian Brou’s on their way to victory as Paudi Drumm opened the scoring with Aaron Reilly and Tomás Corrigan both adding points.
Derrylin had a list of players missing as they had to call in three players from retirement to play, with one of them, Eoin Maguire, scoring 1-01.
He added a point in the first-half along with Fearghal McGovern, Joe Lunney and Diarmuid Owens. Drumm found the net midway through the first 30 minutes when he finished off a slick hand-passing move, as he and Corrigan both pointed again before a second goal ensued.
That came from the penalty spot and was converted by Sean McManus.
Niall Bogue pointed an early second-half score and Corrigan kicked a free before Donal Owens got his name on the scoresheet.
McGovern and Owens traded scores with Donal Owens and Corrigan as Derrylin then found a goal of their own when Donal McAvinue fisted on a long kick for Maguire to run onto and finish low to the net.
Tom Keenan, Donal Owens, Corrigan, Dara Cathcart and Oisin Mckenna tagged on late scores to finish off a heavily depleted Derrylin side.
The O’Connell’s also suffered a 0-24 to 0-07 loss to Derrygonnelly at the end of last week.
Speaking on the last two games, manager Sean Donnelly said: “It was an improvement from Friday, you couldn’t fault the boys that were there.
"They got two early goals and built up a good lead. There was a bit of fight in the second half. This time last year we had three county lads who are away and Cathair Leonard went off after a minute (on Tuesday).
"The only thing is we now have Enniskillen, Derrygonnelly and Erne Gaels all out of the way now at least.”
