Teemore 2-14 Brookeborough 4-06

A late surge from Brookeborough made for a frantic ending at St. Mary’s Park last Friday, but after two goals in the final 10 minutes from Rory Greene and Conor Howell, it still wasn’t enough to peg Teemore back.

The visitors outscored the Shamrocks, 2-05 to 0-02, in the final 15 minutes but that still wasn’t enough to pull back the lead that Teemore had built up in the opening 45 minutes as they held on to their unbeaten start to Division Two.

Teemore assistant manager Barry Owens admitted he was just happy to hold in the end: “Relieved to come away with the two points.

"We had played some good football and were cruising with 10 left, with 10 between us, but we just made some silly mistakes and Brookeborough took full advantage of it.

"Thankfully we got away with it and we're still in the hunt for promotion.”

Meanwhile, Brookeborough boss Donal Boyle said his side started too slowly: “We played OK in the first half but couldn't get the scores. Changed a few things at halftime and we were a lot better going forward in the second half.”

Teemore led by eight points at halftime with Ronan McCaffrey getting on the scoresheet early, but the away side found a goal in the opening moments to go ahead when a high ball towards the square broke for Aaron Foy and he gathered, finished high to the net.

McCaffrey and Eoin McManus both pointed twice from frees over the course of the half with efforts from Jack McGann and Ruairi Maguire also sailing over from play.

Boyle’s side were unable to build on their early goal and things got worse for them when Sean McNally found the net just before the break as an exchange between McGann and Jack Quinlan opened up room for McNally to fire home.

An early Teemore point was responded to with a Dylan Bogue point and then a second Brookeborough goal.

McManus, Maguire, McGann, Sean Doherty, Jason McCaffrey and Aaron Lee all hit points for Teemore to bring their total to 2-14 with Damien Lee palming in a second goal.

A late flourish from the travelling side saw Rory Greene palm in a goal and Conor Howell slot home a penalty after a foot block, in between points from Dylan Bogue (2), Damian Curran, Howell and Rhys Bogue but it came too late as Teemore held on to the win.
