Kinawley 0-14 Enniskillen Gaels 2-08
Kinawley and Enniskillen Gaels played out an entertaining draw in a game defined by a strong wind at Patrick McManus Park last Saturday.
Both sides were without a handful of starters as Simon Bradley’s side dropped their first points in Division One after winning their opening five matches with some impressive displays following the return of their county players.
It was the home side who played with the advantage of the breeze in the opening half and they made good use of it, scoring 0-09 with Sean McManus scoring five of those and ending the game with 0-08.
After conceding the opening score, Enniskillen responded in the best way possible when Johnny Cassidy made his way up the pitch and rose highest at the back post to palm in a goal to get his side off the mark.
McManus kicked over a free and the home side went on to grab the next five scores to open up a lead with McManus adding alongside Aaron O’Reilly, Ciaran Breen and Oisin McKenna.
John Reihill stopped the bleeding for the Gaels when he converted a free, on the 20-minute mark, to make it 0-07 to 1-01.
Jamie Steele split the posts in between scores from McManus and Caolan Brennan to make it 0-09 to 1-02 heading towards the changing rooms.
With the Gaels now playing in favour of the wind they made a productive start to the second half with Conor Watson gaining their first point and Cassidy followed his example with less than three minutes gone.
Points from Reihill and Cassidy then tied the game as Bradley’s side made quick work of closing the gap.
McManus and Conor McShea exchanged scores and Kinawley then briefly retook the lead, through Anthony Anderson, until John Reihill slammed in a second Gaels goal to put them two in front with just over five minutes remaining.
Cassidy brought his tally up to 1-03 with another point but two late frees from McManus meant that the sides would share the points.
Gaels face Belnaleck away on Wednesday this week while Kinawley travel to Roslea on Friday.
Speaking after the weekend's draw in Kinawley, Enniskillen Gaels manager Simon Bradley said: "Enjoyable game with plenty of mistakes from both teams. Draw probably a fair result.
"Although we were disappointed with our last six minutes where our game management wasn't the best. Happy that we got to look at more of the squad with players away on holidays."
