Newtownbutler 3-06 Aghadrumsee 3-11
Aghadrumsee’s rich vein of form continued on their travels to Newtownbutler on Friday past.
Jason O’Connor’s side have turned a corner since the start of the campaign and have netted nine goals in their last three games as they continue to surf up the table following a 3-11 to 3-06 win.
Speaking after the game, O’Connor said: "Was happy with the win and it keeps the momentum going as it's three wins in a row, but we know we still have stuff to work on and we gave away three avoidable goals.
"Between ‘Newtown and ourselves there is never much in it, and it was the exact same on Friday night, but the most pleasing thing is our work rate and there is real competition now for places and we still have a good few lads to come back into the squad too which is great.
"We have Donagh now on Friday which is going to be another tough challenge and not one to be taken lightly.”
Newtownbutler were still without a handful of players with another disappointing result.
Speaking on the defeat, joint manager Shay McKiernan said: “The performance wasn’t what we hoped for, we’re still really badly hampered with injuries, at the moment.
"We have seven or eight out with injuries, so, it wasn’t what we wanted. It’s not where we were earlier in the season, in the Player’s League, we were performing to a higher level, but with men on holidays and injuries the squad is very depleted.”
After a close first-half, Aghadrumsee pushed their way ahead with two second-half goals from James Flanagan and Enda McCabe to eventually run out winners by five points.
Sean Conlon netted a goal when he palmed a long ball towards the square into the net.
Conlon also added a point in the half along with scores from Diarmuid King (2) and Sean Mullaney.
McCabe, Eddie Courtney, Daniel Crudden and Aidan Bannon were all on target for the away side with Courtney grabbing their fist goal as he palmed in a shot that dropped short from Flanagan.
Both teams netted twice in the second half, again Conlon palmed in a long ball towards the square but the Magpies hit back Flanagan responded with a neat finish at the other end.
McCabe found the roof of the net after that as Chrissy Flanagan, Courtney, McCabe and Tommy O’Hara added points while King and Sean Mullaney provided Newtownbutler’s two second-half points.
Conor Quinn added a late goal for the hosts when he fisted in from close range after Conlon knocked down another high ball but it was too little too late as Aghadrumsee took the points with them on the road home.
