Aghadrumsee 1-10 St. Pat’s, Donagh 3-10
St. Pat’s brought Aghadrumsee’s winning run to an end with a 3-10 to 1-10 victory at St. Macartan’s Park on Friday evening.
Two late goals from Brian McDermott and Patrick Treacy gave Donagh the win after the Magpies led with just under five minutes remaining.
It was a fourth win in six for Donagh while Aghadrumsee’s three-game winning run came to an end as they sit one spot behind their opponents on Friday in Division Two.
Aghadrumsee boss Jason O’Connor said after the game: “It is a very hard defeat to take as I felt we were the better team for most of the game.
"We let in a poor goal from our point of view at the start of the second half and it gave St. Pat's a lift probably just when they needed it but we still went back in front again and we were looking strong. We got a black card with seven minutes left and it was a real momentum changer.
"We probably just didn't adjust to it well and credit to St. Pat's they took full advantage of it. The lads were absolutely terrific and were devastated losing the game and I suppose that's a good sign as it shows how much they care. I couldn't have asked for much more out of the boys.”
Aghadrumsee led for the majority of the first-half and took a 0-07 to 0-03 advantage in at the interval as Damien Mc Carville, Darren Kearns, Caolan Adair, Daniel Crudden, Eddie Courtney and Aidan Bannon (2) all split the posts in the opening half.
Shay Cadden and Brian McDermott hit scores for Donagh, but it was Cadden’s goal at the start of the second-half that brought them to life as he sent in a long free from range that dropped and found its way into the net.
Bannon traded points with Brian McDermott, Pearse McDermott and Thomas Cadden after that until Daniel Crudden found the net for the Magpies in between points from Pearse McDermott and Shay Cadden when he drove a shot low to the net.
The home side led 1-10 to 1-08 when they were reduced to 14 men after a black card and Donagh would make use of their extra man as they finished the stronger of the sides.
Cadden hit two late points until goals from Brian McDermott and Patrick Treacy won the game for their side in the closing minutes to take the win.
