The 2024 Irish Summer Youth and Senior Championships wrapped up last week at the National Aquatic Centre on the Sport Ireland Campus in Dublin, where 19-year-old Enniskillen swimmer Ellie McCartney delivered a stellar performance.
Competing in three events, McCartney won gold in all, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination.
A three-time European finalist, McCartney took home two individual gold medals and one relay gold for Ards.
Her championship journey began with the 100m Breaststroke, where she emerged as the top seed and secured the gold medal with an impressive time of 1:09.51, just shy of her personal best.
Continuing her winning streak, McCartney dominated the 200m Individual Medley (IM) the following day. She entered the finals as the top seed and clinched the Irish title in what was her final swim of a long season.
In addition to her individual successes, McCartney competed in the 4x100m Mixed Medley Relay, swimming the breaststroke leg for Ards. Her strong performance contributed to the team’s gold medal victory, bringing her total to three golds at the championship.
With a well-deserved rest ahead, McCartney can reflect on her remarkable achievements. Her outstanding performance at the championships highlights her potential for an exciting future, as she now looks forward to supporting her teammates at the Paris Olympics.
