Enniskillen Town 4-1 Lisbellaw United
Enniskillen Town lifted their ninth Coffey Cup last Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over Lisbellaw United at Castle Park.
Both sides have been regulars in the pre-season tournament with Lisbellaw winning the 2023 edition and the Town taking the honours in 2022.
James Harrigan scored all four of Enniskillen’s goals sweeping up the Player of the Tournament prize in the process as new player/manager Ryan Hanna lifted his first piece of silverware.
Town defeated tournament hosts Lisnaskea Rovers in their semi-final meeting while Lisbellaw saw off Clones Town.
“We set our stall out at the start of the year, in terms of what we wanted to achieve, as a club and as a team,” Hanna said after last night's win.
“I think it was unanimous that we wanted to attack everything that we’re in and go for everything and that applied to the Coffey Cup.
"It was a trophy there to win, whether it was pre-season or not. Success breeds success and we wanted to start off on the right foot, we done that with a really strong performance.”
Town started off on the front foot in Lisnaskea and controlled the majority of possession for the opening stages.
They created a couple of half chances but after Lisbellaw changed their shape it became a more even affair with both sides battling in the centre of the park.
The Town were rewarded for their bright start before the halfway stage as Thomas Owens lifted his head on the right wing and lofted a cross into the box for Harrigan to head home after getting across his man.
After an even start to the second half, that saw chances at either end, the Enniskillen side doubled their lead when Harrigan robbed the ball of a United defender and bore down on goal before slotting home.
Hanna’s ball over the top of the back four allowed Harrigan to race after as he won a footrace with Lisbellaw’s goalkeeper and finished to his side to complete his hat-trick and put his side in total control.
Harrigan headed in a fourth goal from an Adam McDonnell cross to cap off a standout individual performance.
Lisbellaw netted a late consolation goal as a free kick towards the back post was headed on target by Philip Beacom and Sam Lindsay was on hand to finish after goalkeeper Ben Thompson’s initial save.
