Kinawley 1-14 Erne Gaels 0-14
Kinawley claimed a well- deserved win over a decimated but wasteful, visiting Erne Gaels in Patrick McManus Park in Kinawley.
The Gaels were minus Odhran Johnston, Michael Óg McGarrigle, Shane Rooney, Jack McCann and Ultan Kelm while Tommy McCafffrey was just back from injury.
The winners led throughout with the key score coming from a Ciaran Breen goal midway through the second half.
For Kinawley manager, Dom Corrigan, this was the difference: "We got a goal midway through the second half that proved the difference in the end.
"The game was nip and tuck really and for both Belleek and ourselves a great game to get in before the Championship kicks off."
This win ends Belleek’s hopes of making a possible league final but both teams are guaranteed Division One football next year.
Kinawley were well worth their half time lead of 0-08 to 0-06 as they showed a high conversion rate against an understrength Erne Gaels side who missed four good goaling chances over the hour.
Kinawley scores in that opening half came from Aaron Reilly (0-02), Sean McManus (0-03 frees) with Liam Owens, Paudie Drumm and goal scorer Ciaran Breen also chipping in with points.
Belleek had a sluggish start and did not score until the 18th minute through a point from Martin Gilfedder.
This was followed by similar scores from the impressive Aogan Kelm (0-03), Oisin Kelm and Ryan Lyons as they narrowed the gap.
But Kinawley managed to stay in front in a well contested second-half through points from Liam Owens, Anthony Anderson and Paul Breen.
However, it was Ciaran Breen’s well executed goal that effectively sealed the deal as the winners were only a point up when Breen struck.
Donnacha Morris, Sean McManus and dual star Tom Keenan completed the scoring for a deserved win.
Erne Gaels responded through points from Seamus Ryder (0-02), Lyons, Gilfedder, Brian Mullin, Aogan Kelm, Oisin Kelm and McCaffrey.
But they will rue those missed goal chances.
Erne Gaels boss Declan Bonner said his side created a number of good goal chances but did not take them.
“We were down quite a few players as well and while it is good to be creating chances you need to be taking them.
“But it was a good competitive game and we have another game against Enniskillen Gaels on Friday.
“But our big hope is to get all our injured players back for the championship.”
