Newtownbutler 1-06 Lisnaskea 2-11
Lisnaskea sealed a fourth-place finish in Division Two with an eight-point win over neighbours Newtownbutler.
The side’s met earlier in the year, in the Club Players’ Competition play-off game, and while Lisnaskea wouldn’t net five goals this time, they still did enough to record another comfortable win in the end.
Emmets’ assistant manager Johnny Feeley was pleased to watch his side pick up a fifth win from eight games: “We'd be happy enough with the performance.
"We controlled the game well at the key moments, and our general play was at a good level throughout.
"We'd have been disappointed with their goal as we switched off completely but overall, we done a lot of things right and it’s a good result.”
Lisnaskea started on the front foot on Friday at Páirc Chanónach as Damian Óg Kelly kicked them into an early lead after finding space.
Sean Keenan, Kelly again and Mark Kelly then added with a score from King at the other end to make it a 0-04 to 0-01 lead.
Lisnaskea were reduced to 14 men after Hayden Lynch was shown a red card and Newtownbutler used the dismissal to go on a good run to get themselves back into the contest with further points coming from King, James Maguire and Kealan Fitzpatrick.
However, Lisnaskea would edge out in front before halftime when they found their first goal.
After goalkeeper Ethan McCaffrey pointed a long-range free from distance, Damian Óg Kelly would go on a driving run down the right-hand side before creating a yard and driving in a powerful effort to the net.
Lisnaskea took a 1-06 to 0-05 advantage in at halftime.
The Emmets took control at the start of the second half with Sean Keenan, Kelly and Joe McDade all splitting the posts to open up their advantage as the home side failed to keep up with their rivals on the scoreboard.
Sean Keenan fired in a second goal after being played in on goal with a good pass from Paul Mohan and they were denied a third goal more than once by the woodwork.
The hosts only managed another point in the second half but they did find the net as Sean Conlon took a quick free kick to release Fitzpatrick and his effort found the net.
Lisnaskea face another derby match-up next, against St. Pat’s, and they will be hoping to make it three wins from three after victories over Maguiresbridge and Newtown.
Meanwhile, the latter two teams meet at Páirc na hÓige on Friday.
