St. Pat’s, Donagh 0-06 Tempo 1-13

Tempo’s win over Donagh at Louis Leonard Memorial Park on Friday means this week’s final league fixture with Teemore is a winner-takes-all clash in the search for promotion.

After the Maguires and the Shamrocks, both recorded wins last weekend, the teams are level on points, heading into their meeting in Tempo to decide who joins Irvinestown in Division One next year.

Lorcan McStravick starred for Tempo last Friday scoring 1-07 in their win, leaving joint manager Ryan Cassidy pleased to pick up a seventh victory in eight games.

“It was good to get the win as Donagh is always a hard place to go and we knew we’d be tested,” he said.

“Donagh were well set up and everything we got we had to work hard for. It was another busy weekend with the reserve championship also, so we were pleased to get over the line and move on.”

A Niall McElroy free kick after three minutes began the scoring in Donagh and a couple of moments later Aidan Breen found space to split the posts from play.

Ryan Ingram added a third point from play and after a cagey opening 20 minutes between the sides, Donagh eventually got off the mark as Pearse McDermott came up from defence to point.

Jimmy Tormey landed a second St. Pat’s score from a mark in between two points from McStravick.

Two frees from McStravick and Ben Warnock saw the away side take charge of the game with McStravick adding again before the halftime whistle to open up an 0-08 to 0-02 lead as the teams headed towards the changing rooms.

McDermott and Eoghan and Eimhin Curran traded points with McStravick, as the latter then found a goal to make it 1-12 to 0-05.

Another Tempo point was followed by a final score from Donagh’s Paul McManus to close out the game.
