Aghadrumsee 1-17 Brookeborough 0-09

Aghadrumsee ended their league campaign on a high with a convincing home win against Brookeborough at St. Macartan’s Park.

It sealed a sixth-place finish for the Magpies after four wins from nine having defeated all of their Junior Championship opponents ahead of next month.

Manager Jason O’Connor was pleased with his side’s league performances overall: “In regards to the league, look it I suppose we were like a lot of the clubs, it was very much up and down and we had to deal with a fair few injuries but the lads never ever complained about.

"It's an improvement I suppose but the lads know that we have dropped points that shouldn't have been dropped which would have moved us up a bit further, but look they have all really stood up in the league and in my opinion the lads are a lot better than what even the table suggests.”

Brookeborough boss Donal Boyle is now looking ahead to championship action and is aiming to have a full squad.

It was a close enough first-half,” Boyle said after Friday’s encounter.

“We fell away in the middle of the second-half. It was the fourth match in a week for most of the team, with injuries and men missing.

"We are hoping to have a full squad available for the championship.”

The away side opened the scoring on Friday as Aaron Foy and Rory Greene kicked early points to push them into the lead.

Aghadrumsee hit back to level the game shortly after, but Conall McDonagh then re-established the lead for the Heber McMahons.

The hosts hit three points on the trot to edge in front with Martin O’Hara, Darren Kearns, Aidan Bannon and Eddie Courtney all adding their names to the scoresheet in the opening 30 minutes.

Greene, McDonagh and Patrick Woods hit points for the visitors, however, Bannon would add two frees before the break to establish an 0-08 to 0-06 lead for the St. Macartan’s side going into halftime.

Foy again opened the scoring with a free in the second-half but the hosts kicked on through Damien Flanagan, Damien McCarville, Kearns, Courtney, Caolan Adair, Enda McCabe, and Martin and Tommy O’Hara.

McCarville struck for the game’s only goal late on when he went on a driving run and played a one-two with McCabe before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Brookeborough hit points through Greene and Rhys Bogue but the home side were comfortable winners after taking control in the final half an hour.
