Derrygonnelly 2-13 Kinawley 0-04
Derrygonnelly dominated a weakened Kinawley side in a lopsided encounter last Friday night, during the final round of Division One.
With Derrygonnelly already assured of a place in the league final, where they will face Enniskillen Gaels at Brewster Park on Saturday evening, the match held little significance.
However, Derrygonnelly will be missing Ryan Jones in that final after he was shown a red card late alongside Kinawley’s Aaron O’Reilly from referee Noel McDonagh.
Friday's match was all but decided by half-time, with Derrygonnelly holding a commanding 1-08 to 0-03 lead.
Missing key players such as captain Tomás Corrigan, Ruairi Corrigan, Paul and Ciaran Breen, Tom Keenan, and goalkeeper Shaun Doherty, Kinawley struggled to put points on the board, allowing Derrygonnelly to capitalize.
Derrygonnelly quickly established their dominance, with early points from Conall Jones and Garvan Jones, before Gary McKenna finished off a counter-attack with a goal.
Further scores from Ryan Jones, Oisin Smyth, and Conall Jones widened the gap, and when Shane McGullion was fouled in the square, Derrygonnelly were awarded a penalty. Kinawley’s replacement goalkeeper Owen Melanaphy made a fine save to deny Garvan Jones from the spot.
Kinawley managed to respond with late first-half points from Sean McManus (2) and Daire Cleary, but Derrygonnelly added two more points through Conall Jones, extending their lead to eight at the break.
Both sides made changes during the interval, but Kinawley remained ineffective up front, only adding a single point in the second half from a Sean McManus free.
Derrygonnelly continued to dominate, with Aidan McKenna, Rían McGovern, Gary McKenna, and Conall Jones adding more points before Shane McGullion wrapped up the victory with a second goal.
The match ended on a tense note, with both Jones and O’Reilly receiving their marching orders following an off-the-ball incident.
