Derrygonnelly 2-04 Enniskillen Gaels 1-10
Conor McShea lifted the Division One title at Brewster Park as Enniskillen Gaels paved their way past holders Derrygonnelly on Saturday evening.
The Gaels went unbeaten during the league and they continued their impressive run with a three-point win over the Harps.
After being tied at halftime, Conor Love’s effort from range dropped all the way into the Harps net to give the Gaels the lead after 40 minutes and they would hold on to it until the end despite Ronan McHugh’s goal giving his side life in the final few moments.
Last year’s double winners were without Garvan, Conall and Ryan Jones and started with a couple of early wides from Stephen McGullion.
It took seven minutes for the opening score as Callum Jones knocked over a free.
Love had a shot on goal saved but he sent a shot over from the right wing just seconds later to double the advantage.
Gary McKenna landed a free at the other end to get his side off the mark with Rory-Joe Duffy then giving Derrygonnelly the lead when he drilled a low shot into the net after Declan Cassidy fisted across goal.
John Reihill put his laces through the ball to add a third Gaels score with a Love effort then coming off the post, however, the ball would eventually come out to Codi Halligan who pointed, to make it 1-01 to 0-04.
McKenna and Jones both scored frees to end the half with the teams level heading towards the changing rooms, 1-02 to 0-05.
McKenna opened the second half scoring with an impressive free with goalkeeper Ross Bogue quickly responding at the other end via a 45’.
Stephen McGullion was on target with a kick from range before Callum Jones was played through on goal but his flash shot was stopped brilliantly by an outstretched hand from Jack Kelly who pushed it over the bar.
The decisive score of the half came from Love as he lifted his head and sent a high ball in towards the square as it evaded everyone and despite a last-ditch attempt to clear, it was judged to have crossed the white line.
McShea sent another shot over midway into the half, to the roar of the Gaels' support in the stands at Brewster.
However, the Harps weren’t done just yet as half-back McHugh made his way up from the back and his attempt dropped into the top left corner of the net as Bogue just couldn’t get a hand to it in time, 1-08 to 2-04.
A driving run from Johnny Cassidy climaxed with the defender having the composure to hook over off the left boot, with two minutes to go.
As the Harps pushed men forward, it left gaps at the back and a breakaway from Enniskillen saw Paddy Reihill and Cassidy make ground with Jones then sending over the final point of the contest.
Jones was shown a black card late on, but the Gaels held on to secure this year’s Division One title in their home ground.
