Manager Simon Bradley led Enniskillen Gaels to a first Division One title in 23 years with their last one coming in 2001.

It adds to the Senior Championship title they won in 2022 as Bradley aims to add another with the championship starting next weekend.

It wasn’t pretty but the Gaels eventually got over the line as they edged to a three-point win on Saturday over Derrygonnelly.

“To be honest, we were disappointed with our performance,” Bradley said on the win.

“I thought we were very nervy looking in the first-half and gave away a poor goal in the first-half and a poor goal in the second half.

"We looked at the stats afterwards and our shooting was way off, so, overall, disappointed with the performance but when you are in a final, you're not too worried about that, to be honest.”

The Gaels’ resilience pleased Bradley at the weekend with late scores coming from Johnny Cassidy and Callum Jones in response to Ronan McHugh’s goal.

He added it's something his side have been targeting the last number of years: “I think when we go back and look at it, for them to get the goal to bring it back to a point and when we went up the field and kicked two good scores to push it out to three and then we seen the game out.

"So, from that point of view, we’ve definitely developed the team because in the last three years, panic stations would have been hit there so that is a positive.”

Bradley is aware Derrygonnelly are likely to be stronger come championship time but insisted there are no clear favourites.

He was in Brewster Park to watch Teemore lift the Division Two title against Irvinestown on Sunday as Enniskillen open their senior championship with a game against the Shamrocks.

“I think Derrygonnelly had players missing for the game for various reasons, but I think what the game has done for the county championship is that there is a championship there (to be won) if you get a bit of luck and you play well.

"There’s certainly no clear favourites for the championship after that final.”

Meanwhile, Derrygonnelly joint manager Paul Greene said after Saturday's game: "It was a tough battle with Enniskillen as it always is, and they have shown that they are in great shape and our challenge now is to try and get up to the same level.

"Our lads battled well with a lot of our young lads playing in their first major game which bodes well for the future."
