Maguiresbridge 0-07 Roslea 1-11
Roslea went top of Group A in the Intermediate Championship with a win over Maguiresbridge on Sunday.
An eight-point advantage at halftime saw them storm to victory with the damage being done in the first-half at Páirc na hÓige.
The visiting side made full use of the breeze in the opening 30 minutes as goalkeeper Sean Quigley came up from the back to kick the first point of the game from play.
Another long kick from Quigley, moments later, dropped before the end line for Shane Lynch to fist over the bar.
Sean Corrigan almost fisted over an effort at the other end shortly after but it clipped the outside of the post and went wide. Quigley then added another free and a ’45 with Adam Treanor making 0-05 to 0-00.
Ryan Hyde went close to cutting the deficit but after catching a high ball he drilled a right-footed effort wide of the goal as Maguiresbridge struggled to break down the rigid Roslea backline.
Quigley added two more free’s from range, as Treanor also converted, to leave the halftime score at 0-08 to no score.
Mark Hughes kicked the opening score of the second half, after seven minutes, to get the home side off the mark.
Substitute Luca McCusker then added a point from play. However, the Shamrocks then hit back with a goal just after the ten-minute mark as a long high ball into the square was fisted down and into the net by Niall Cosgrove.
Sean Corrigan found space to split the posts from range but again Roslea had an answer as Lynch and Cosgrove both pointed at the other end.
Hughes tagged on two more frees and McCusker sent in a long high ball that was pushed onto the bar and over by Roslea substitute goalkeeper Ryan McCormick.
Hughes sent over a free after Roslea’s final point to leave the game at 0-07 to 1-11. Shamrocks boss Ciaran Murphy was happy to see his side record a first win and go top of the group following Belcoo’s win over Tempo.
“We played a lot better, we were much improved, but missed a lot of opportunities, we probably should have pushed on a bit more," he said.
"It’s a tough game against Belcoo, they probably need to win it, if they win it, they top the group I think, if they lose they’re out, so, they’ll be coming all guns blazing.”
Meanwhile, Maguiresbridge manager Adrian Diver said: “Obviously we are disappointed with the defeat but it’s all to play for still in this section of the Intermediate Championship and we will be going out to win on Saturday.
"Playing against the wind in the first half meant that we needed to try to keep their scores down and chip away with a few of our own and although we had chances, we really needed to get some scores on the board in the first-half.”
