Sixmile Athletic 0 Enniskillen Town 6
Frank Wallace scored a hat-trick as Enniskillen Town cruised into round two of the Irish Junior Cup.
The Fermanagh and Western side were four ahead by halftime against Sixmile Athletic after Ryan Hanna and Jordan Breen added to Wallace’s early brace, and the Town striker completed his hat-trick five minutes after the break with Thomas Owens completing the scoring in the final minute.
Town manager Ryan Hanna felt the convincing victory was a fair reflection of his side’s dominance on the day.
“It was exactly what it looked like on paper,” he said. “Away from home, six goals, clean sheet, no injuries.
"From our perspective, it was a good day all round. In terms of performance, I think we were pretty good in spells and they were the occasions where we took the game away from Sixmile Athletic.
"We know our standards and probably the performance could have been better across the entire game, but that is what we can look at improving over the next couple of weeks.”
Town made an ideal start to the match, taking the lead with just four minutes on the clock when Wallace collected a pass inside the penalty area and cut onto his right foot before drilling a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Town were in control of the contest and they added a deserved second after half an hour when Brendan Lilley did well on the left wing before finding Jordan Breen.
His cross picked out Wallace on the edge of the penalty area and he took a touch before unleashing a shot that found the top corner.
Two minutes later it was 3-0. Adam McDonald’s searching pass beyond the home team’s defence allowed Hanna to nip in front of the goalkeeper and defender, and from a tight angle, the player/manager found the back of the net.
Town added a fourth just before the halftime whistle when Nick Collen’s pass gave Wallace a sight of goal.
The goalkeeper got down to save the initial effort but from the rebound, Breen pounced to fire the ball high into the net.
Five minutes after the interval Wallace completed his hat-trick when Hanna burst down the left and pulled the ball across for the striker to place a first time shot beyond the keeper’s reach.
Town sealed their emphatic victory in the final minute when a deep corner was headed back across goal.
Dara Carty’s acrobatic shot was blocked on the goal line, but Owens reacted quickest to stab the ball over the line for Town’s sixth.
