Killymoon Rangers Reserves 0 Magheraveely 5
Magheraveely dispatched Killymoon Rangers Reserves in the Junior Cup, scoring five goals without reply to progress to round two.
Cormac Boyle’s early goal had given Magheraveely a slender half time lead, but they pulled clear with a much improved second half display to run out comfortable winners, with Boyle adding his second and Warren Stewart, Ben Smith and Nilson Morelato also getting on the score sheet.
Magheraveely manager Lewis Bennett felt his side were in complete control of the match, and could have racked up even more goals.
“We could have won by a lot more,” he said. “We missed four or five one on ones in the first half.
"We had a very weak eleven because the Gaelic killed us this week, but we got the job done in the end and I was happy with how we played.
"We kept the ball well and kept a high press, and we completely dominated in the second half and scored three goals in quick succession.
"It was good to win the game, and we scored some good goals. They are playing well and they are playing how I want them to play.
"They are listening. I’m new to this job but I’m happy with how the season is going so far.”
Magheraveely made a positive start to the match and they were rewarded after eight minutes when a through ball from Cameron O’Leary set Boyle clear of the defence, and he slotted the ball past Niall Martin in the Killymoon goal.
Magheraveely continued to go on the attack and they carved out chance after chance, but they had to wait until the 65th minute to grab a second when Warren Stewart ran onto a through ball and drilled a low shot into the net from a tight angle.
The home team suffered another setback moments later when Gaspar Pinto received a second yellow card, and Magheraveely took full advantage of the extra man.
Boyle had a free kick saved by Martin, but the keeper could not hold the shot and Ben Smith pounced on the loose ball and fired into the unguarded net.
Boyle scored his second of the game with ten minutes remaining from a long throw in by O’Leary, and substitute Nilson Morelato completed the scoring in the final minute when he rounded off a flowing team move with a shot from twenty yards out.
