Malachy O’Rourke was confirmed as the new Tyrone manager tonight after being ratified by the county board.
Tyrone GAA announced the appointment via social media this evening after a meeting with county members was scheduled for Tuesday night last week.
The Derrylin man had his name put forward by club Errigal Ciarán and believed to have been the only name put forward after joint managers Brian Dooher and Feargal Logan stepped down from the role.
O’Rourke has had a fruitful spell with Derry club Glen landing three county titles, two Ulster trophies and led them to back-to-back All-Ireland senior club finals in the last two years as they came out on top against Roscommon side St Brigid’s earlier this year.
O’Rourke led Fermanagh to an Ulster Championship final in 2008 where they fell just short to Armagh.
Monaghan was the last county side he managed as he delivered an Ulster title to the county for the first time in 25 years but left the role.
Former Tyrone managers Dooher and Logan announced their decision to step down following a shock exit to Roscommon before the All-Ireland quarter-final last season.
