Brookeborough 0-15 Coa 2-22 (AET)
Brookeborough and Coa went all the way to extra-time, but in the end, the O’Dwyers marched on to the Junior Championship semis with a 13-point victory as their opponents finished with 13 men.
Damian Wardman and Caoilte Farry netted in either half of extra-time as Gary Lynch’s side took control of the contest after a tight opening 60 minutes in Aghadrumsee.
Lee McQuade hit the opening score on Saturday, at St Macartan’s Park, and that was quickly followed by another O’Dwyers point from Oisin Farry.
Dylan Bogue got the Heber Mahons off the mark as Jason Farry and Rory Greene then traded scores.
Coa hit the next three points through Caoilte Farry and Ben Thompson (2). But Brookeborough then hit the final three points of the half to go into the changing rooms a point down as a free from Aidan Boyle was accompanied by scores via Greene and Bogue, to make it 0-06 to 0-05.
Boyle landed the opening score of the second half with Niall Quinn responding.
Conor Howell and Caoilte Farry pointed as Donal Boyle’s side then levelled the game through two Greene points.
Aidan Boyle stuck over another free but Darragh Murphy kept it close. A Rhys Bogue free was met with another Murphy score as Brookeborough then pushed themselves three ahead through Dylan Bogue and Cathal Moane.
Coa found themselves in a tough spot in the closing stages, but they had the answers as Murphy and Quinn hit late points to force the game into extra-time, at 0-13 apiece.
Caoilte Farry hit the opener only to be followed by the opening goal, as a high ball in towards the square broke for Wardman who palmed into the net from close range.
Murphy and Caoilte Farry put Coa six points ahead as Brookeborough then went down to 14 men after Eoin McCarney’s point, as Sean Wray was shown a second yellow card.
Farry hit the final point of the half. Farry and Murphy hit four points in the second half with Farry then netting a second Coa goal as Paddy Murphy won possession in midfield and it was quickly worked up to McQuade who fisted across goal for Farry to palm in.
Murphy and Joe Corcoran traded late points while Greene was also shown a red card. Speaking after the game, Brookeborough boss, Donal Boyle said: “We played very well I thought for the 60 minutes.
"We didn't see the game out when we were ahead in the five minutes of injury time. We knew it would be a tight game.
"The momentum of their equaliser, them having the wind in the first period, and us being down to 13 turned out crucial in extra-time.”
