Tummery Athletic 11-0 Roe Valley
Tummery Athletic recorded an emphatic 11-0 win over Roe Valley to progress to the next round of the fonaCAB Junior Cup as Shea Devlin netted four goals.
Ciaran Beacom and Torigh Nicholas also bagged a brace as Kevin McAleer’s side will now face Rosario YC II in the second round of the competition.
Speaking after Saturday’s big win at Crawfords Lane, boss McAleer said: “Saturday was a really good team performance from start to finish.
"We dominated the game and took our chances. What I asked this week was for us to be more clinical, and ruthless in front of goal and they did that.
"Roe Valley to their credit never stopped regardless of the scoreline, they kept pushing and trying to get on the scoresheet.
"So another positive I take away from that is that we remained disciplined and switched on for the 90 minutes, didn’t let our standards slip as it would be easy to do with the scoreline and for us to concede but we kept the clean sheet and I’m very pleased about that also.”
The home side made a fast start and were on top of their opponents from the get-go with a couple of chances at goal in the opening few moments.
The breakthrough came just after 15 minutes as good ball from goalkeeper Nathan Hunter saw him find his brother Calum who slotted home for 1-0 after getting in behind the Roe defence.
Ciaran Beacom added another goal to his account this season when he made his way up from the back and headed home from a corner just past the 20-minute mark.
Just two minutes later, it was 3-0 as referee Dermot Monaghan awarded a penalty that converted by Declan McNulty.
A cross into the penalty area saw Torigh Nicholas rise and get his head on the ball to net a fourth Tummery goal.
The goals kept flowing as it was all one-way traffic in Dromore with Devlin scoring twice before the interval to make it 6-0 as the sides headed towards the changing rooms.
Beacom headed in his second with just five minutes gone in the second half, taking his tally to four goals this season.
Nicholas added again on the hour mark with Nathan Hunter barely being called into action at the other end.
A flowing attack then fell to the feet of Padraig Goodman who rolled the ball into the net. Like the first-half, Devlin struck twice late on to seal a quartet of goals.
