A book chronicling Mountjoy United FC's 50-year history has been penned by former player Ralph Freeman.

The publication captures the club's journey from their first Fermanagh and Western league game in a farmer's field in 1974 to their current status.

The book provides an in-depth account of the club's history, including key events, matches, and goals, as well as personal stories and photos.

Hundreds of players, officials, and supporters are mentioned, with a searchable index of nearly 1,000 individuals available on the club's Facebook page.

The book also provides insights into the club's interactions with local Omagh rivals and other Fermanagh teams like Enniskillen Town, Rangers, Irvinestown Wanderers, Kesh and Tempo.

Former Ballinamallard manager Whitey Anderson described the book as "an enlightening publication containing honourable mentions for clubs and personnel within the wider Fermanagh and Western area spanning half a century."

The book is not just a football chronicle but a social history of the club's characters on and off the field.

It highlights the club's journey from humble beginnings to a 50-year legacy.

Ivan Sproule, a former Northern Ireland and Hibernian player, said: "My journey as a player began, and indeed ended, at a club like Mountjoy Utd and I am delighted to see them celebrating their 50th anniversary.

"This book is a fascinating record of the people and personalities involved on and off the field.

"A detailed account of the club’s history, littered with revealing facts and humorous tales."

The book will be available at the end of September as a limited edition.

The club encourages anyone interested to reserve their copy via email at Mountjoybook1974@gmail.com or by contacting Beverley Walker on 07779 153368.
