Not good enough!
That was the reaction of Erne Gaels boss Declan Bonner as he wondered just how his side managed to lose a two point lead injury time in a game they had dominated for so long.
This was Bonner’s biggest game of year and while he was reasonably happy with the first-half display, the ex-Donegal boss was not impressed with his side only managing one point in the entire second-half or the way they conceded that crucial goal in injury time.
And they must now defeat Teemore in the quarter-final in Belleek this weekend to secure a place in the the semi-final.
But Bonner will know that this was a major chance missed.
“It was a real sickener. Five minutes into injury time and Ryan Lyons got turned over in the middle of the field whether it was a foul or not.
“They had four on one on us, and it was on our 45-metre line and they worked it well to get the goal.
“It is hard to take as we led for 65 minutes and then to lose it in the blink of an eye.
“We were going well in the first half and Ultan Kelm and Dan McCann kicked some fine scores for us.
“Ultan got a fine goal too in the first-half and we were were well worth our lead of 1-07 to 0-06 at the break.
“That was a very good cushion in a tight game and it is so disappointing that we were not able to hold on to that lead.
“We had played well in that half even though Derrygonnelly missed quite a few chances in the first-half.”
Bonner added that it was a tight affair for the first 15 minutes of the second-half.
“They got a point early on and we got a point, the only one of the half and that is not good enough by any means to win a championship so we will just have to learn from that if we are to progress.”
When asked what happened to his side in the second half, he said: “We lost our shape to a degree and we just could not complete our attacks like the way we do every night in training which is very frustrating.
“The ironic thing was that we had defended really well and the game was there to be seen out.
“It was a cagey game and the goal was a real sucker punch but it is a lesson that we will need to learn from and quickly and move on.”
Erne Gaels now take on Teemore who edged out Belnaleck in their encounter in Donagh.
“We must now focus on Teemore and that will not be easy as they have a great championship tradition and are mighty battlers.
“We are not looking past next week but you have to realise that the Harps are a very seasoned team and are well used to winning tight games especially against us.
“But we are still in the championship and that was a good test to show us exactly where we are at.
“There are positives but giving away the goal is most disappointing.”
Derrygonnelly joint manager Paul Greene, was delighted his team were able to snatch a last gasp win: "“Yes we were delighted to sneak the win in what was a hard-fought contest. Our lads hung in there thankfully.
"We are very happy to top the group and now have an extra week to prepare for the semi-final.”
