Enniskillen 2-07 Kinawley 0-07

Division One league champions made it three wins from three games in the Mannok SFC Group as they overcame Kinawley in a top of the table clash.

The win booked their place in the semi-final while Kinawley will take on Ederney in the quarter-finals.

The Gaels are the only team in the senior championship to win all their group games.

Winning the throw-in, Gaels held on to the ball and Conor Love was able to find space and fire over a fine score after a minute.

Kinawley did well to beat a high Enniskillen press and moved up the field with Ruairi Corrigan jinking and drawing a free which his brother, Tomás, converted.

But the Gaels responded immediately as Callum Jones attempted to find Ethan Beresford who was fouled, and John Reihill converted.

But again, it was all square when Tomás Corrigan popped over a mark after good battling by Kinawley around the middle of the pitch, 0-02 apiece with 10 minutes played.

The Gaels were guilty of some poor shooting while Kinawley were finding it hard to find space for their forwards playing with the wind.

A bit of niggle entered the game as the half progressed, but scores were few and far between with it taking almost 10 minutes for the next score.

And what a score it was.

Aichlinn O’Cathain broke forward from defence and played the ball out to Tomás Corrigan who launched over a super score from distance off the outside of his right to give his side the lead for the first time as the Borus intensity increased.

A harsh looking free gave the Gaels a levelling score from the boot of Callum Jones.

Brandon Horan, who had returned from a hamstring injury was replaced by Eoin Beacom as Kinawley missed two good scoring chances with Dylan Boyle dropping the ball short.

But it was the Gaels who went at the break at the lead.

Ciaran Smith got the ball on the sideline and his weighted pass into Love allowed the corner forward to turn and score off his right, 0-04 to 0-03.

And then with 29 minutes played, Beresford attempted a shot at goal, but it was dropping short, and Conor McShea was in the right place to flick the ball past Shaun Doherty to leave it 1-04 to 0-03 at the break.

Kinawley worked the ball well to hit the first score of the half through Anthony Anderson to leave the goal between the sides.

The game was opening up with some brilliant defending form both sides halting scores before Johnny Cassidy dropped the shoulder and laying off to Jones who restored Enniskillen’s four-point lead.

Richie O’Callaghan was black carded for what appeared to be a block on a Kinawley player as the Gaels looked to break and the free was floated over by Tiarnan McKenna.

Enniskillen reacted well to the loss of O’Callaghan as Love won a scrappy ball and split the posts.

But Kinawley responded as the game entered the final 15 minutes.

Good work from Colman Corrigan, Ruairi Corrigan and Paul Breen allowed Sean McManus to hit a massive score.

Kinawley were pressing Enniskillen high with the extra man and the Gaels were lucky at times to get out from their defence.

But they could not convert the pressure into scores as Donal Owens goal bound shot was blocked by Ross Bogue.

At the other end, Aaron O’Reilly was judged to have lifted the ball on the ground after another display of good defending and Jones converted the free as O’Callaghan returned to the field.

Kinawley needed a goal to have any chance of getting anything from the game, but it was Enniskillen who found the net for a second time.

With 59 minutes on the clock, Beacom arrowed a Crossfield ball into the path of Nathan Tierney. He drove at goal before offloading to McShea who passed for Love to easily palmed to the net.

And while Tomás Corrigan converted a free after it was not enough as the Gaels ran out six-point winners.
