Enniskillen Town 6-0 Ardstraw

Enniskillen Town continued their impressive start to the season with a 6-0 win over Ardstraw at St Michael’s.

Frank Wallace and Darren Freeman both netted a brace while Nicholas Collen and James Harrigan also bagged goals to maintain top spot in the Mercer League.

It’s the third match in a row Ryan Hanna’s side have scored six following their 6-0 win over Sixmile in the Junior Cup and a 6-1 win over Irvinestown Wanderers.

Speaking after the match, player/manager Hanna said: “Really good to get the three points, that’s what we aim to do on a Saturday and when you can put a good performance on top of that it really helps, and we done that.

"We’re creating a lot of chances and converted a lot of those chances as well. We’re not giving up much at the back which is really pleasing for a squad that’s still fairly new together and embedding new signings early in the season.

"The buzz is good and the lads are working hard and they’re focused on the next game which is all we’re really worried about at the minute.

"We’ll prepare for Dergview Reserves away next week which will be another tough game.”

Town opened the scoring after just eight minutes after a switch in play was taken down by Harrigan and he used his pace to get around his man and pulled the ball back across the box for Frank Wallace to slot home for an early lead.

Collen made it 2-0 with just under ten minutes to go until halftime as Thomas Owens received the ball out wide and also beat his man before delivering into the area where Collen took a first touch and turned before finishing into the top corner.

The home side found a third with less than five minutes played in the second half, Frank Wallace picked the ball up on the edge of the box after a corner was headed out, and he found Harrigan who whipped the ball into the far bottom corner for 3-0.

Three minutes later, the Enniskillen side put the game beyond doubt when Hanna found Wallace and the latter took on his man and got around him to bear down on goal before sliding in a fourth goal.

Substitute Freeman was taken down in the penalty area with ten minutes to go and he stepped up to dispatch the penalty for a fifth goal.

The same man capped off the scoring in the final minute, a quick transition up the field saw Freeman find space on the edge of the area and his shot took a slight deflection en route to the net to make it 6-0. While Town make the trip to Castlederg, Ardstraw will host Beragh Swifts this Saturday as they look to add a second league win of the season.
