Orchard Farm 2-5 Newtownstewart United
Newtownstewart handed Orchard Farm a second league defeat of the season as they hit five in Fivemiletown to move up to fifth in Division Two.
Three first-half goals from the visiting set them on the path to a deserved win while Seamie Quigley was shown a red card in between second half goals from Gavin Kee and an overhead kick from Brian McDermott.
“We were very, very poor to be totally honest about it,” said Farm joint manager Shane O’Donnell.
“It was the worst I’ve seen us play all season, we were missing some key players in Scotty Armstrong and Tiarnan Elliot. We did get Scotty in at halftime, but we were 3-0 down at that stage which made it difficult to get back in it.
"We have a tough game against Magheraveely at the weekend and we’ll be without Seamie who is suspended and we’ll also be missing ones with the Gaelic being on.
"Magheraveely have started the season well so it will provide us with a tough test and we need to be at our best if we want a result.”
The game was only four minutes old when the first goal went in as a loose ball given away in the Farm backline was pounced on by the visitor's and Daniel O’Neill was played in and he slotted home for 1-0.
Although Farm grew into the game after the opener they were unable to carve out any real chances for the forward pair of Quigley and McDermott and after United threatened in behind a couple of times they got their second goal and again it came from Farm playing from the back and losing possession as they were punished a second time.
Just a few minutes before halftime, it was 3-0, Tiarnan Mayse’s free kick from the edge of the area took a deflection and flew past goalkeeper Ian Carson to make it an even tougher halftime team talk for the hosts.
After a couple of early substitutions, Farm improved the second half and had chances to level the game before Gavin Kee did so just past the hour mark.
He picked up the ball just outside the box and fired a low shot to the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
Quigley was shown a yellow just before the hour but a strong challenge with 20 minutes to go saw him receive a straight red card.
Turlough McNamee made it 4-1 when another high press saw his side win the ball and applied a cool finish.
Brian McDermott responded with a stunning bicycle kick into the top corner from outside the box, but Michael Ward then finished off the scoring as Newtownstewart now host Omagh Hospitals this Saturday.
