Magheraveely 4-0 Lisnaskea Rovers
Two goals each from Joseph Williamson and Dean Carroll gifted Magheraveely a 4-0 win at home to Lisnaskea Rovers on last weekend in Clones.
The win sees Lewis Bennett’s side move into third as they hunt an immediate return to the Mercer League after relegation last season.
Lisnaskea’s chances were hindered going into halftime as they went into the interval down to 10 men.
Manager Bennet was pleased to see his side record another win: “Yeah it was a very one-sided affair, our goalkeeper didn’t have a save to make in the 90 minutes.
"We just lacked a bit of quality in the final third, we did have five centre-backs starting due to low numbers.
"We have started well considering we still have a lot of players to come back in, I’m happy enough with how it’s going so far with just the one defeat.
"I didn’t come away too satisfied from Saturday, I think we had a lot more to offer but hopefully, we can put that right this coming Saturday.
"We still have three or four Gaelic players to come back in as well so they will be a boost for the squad.”
The home side started on the front foot at the Peace Link Centre and had some early chances but were unable to break down Rovers’ rigid defence.
Magheraveely were awarded a penalty, on the stroke of halftime, when Juvenal Da Silva was taken down in the box as Rovers boss Ronnie Kernaghan was shown a red card.
Williamson stepped up and slotted the ball home from the spot. A minute later, Lisnaskea suffered another blow as Eimhin Curran was shown a second yellow card as his side went into the changing rooms a man and a goal down in a calamitous few minutes.
Williamson doubled the lead on the hour mark when converted from the spot again after being fouled by Lisnaskea’s goalkeeper.
He had the chance to get his hat-trick on two occasions but was denied both times by strong saves.
Carroll made it 3-0 with 15 minutes to go, as he hit the roof of the net from a Williamson through ball to kill off any hopes of a comeback.
In the final minute, Carroll found the bottom corner with a powerful strike from outside the box. Magheraveely play away to Orchard Farm this week while Lisnaskea host Mountjoy United at Castle Park.
