Beragh Swifts 1-3 Irvinestown Wanderers
Three second half goals saw Beragh Swifts turn Saturday's game on its head against Irvinestown Wanderers in the Mercer League.
A goal after two minutes, from Dwayne Carleton, gave the visiting side the lead at Fountain Lane, but strikes from Stephen Cairns, Jack Todd and Stephen Browne saw Beragh move into fourth in the Mercer League.
Wanderers manager Darren Higginbotham was left disappointed at letting the early lead slip: “From our perspective, I think we started the game really well.
"I felt we did everything we wanted to do in the first 30 minutes probably apart from adding that second goal.
"It was a really good contest and we were playing well, but we must see these games out. When you’re going 1-0 up halftime, you have 45 minutes to get three crucial points, you must take them scenarios and see games out.
"Look, we’re not going to get too downbeat, it’s too early in the season for that, I’ve seen enough from us so far this season that we can be competitive like we always wanted to be. We now need to dust ourselves down and go again this weekend.”
Irvinestown face another tough challenge in the form of Mickey Kerr’s Enniskillen Rangers who won the Presidents’ Cup at the weekend.
“Saturday will not be an easy game this weekend, but we have to believe we deserve to be there and that we can get something from the game,” Higginbotham added.
“It was one of those frustrating days (against Beragh), but we will dust ourselves down and respond.”
An early corner saw Carleton head home at the near post to give his side an ideal start and Irvinestown played some good football in the remainder of the first-half but were unable to build on the early advantage.
Beragh came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and they levelled the game five minutes in.
A strike from range was beaten away by goalkeeper Jerome Carleton but Cairns was on hand to rifle the ball into the roof of the net on the follow-up.
Goals in the 82nd and 89th minute sealed the win as a cross was headed back across goal for Todd to finish from close range.
Browne concluded the scoring when his shot from the edge of the box was blocked but he got a second go and smashed home to make it 3-1.
