Irvinestown 1-13 Roslea 1-06
Irvinestown ran out comfortable winners in their quarter-final tie at home to Roslea last Saturday to set up a last four clash with Belcoo.
Roslea never really looked like turning Irvinestown over as they trailed by seven points at half-time.
And while they started the second-half brightly, a missed penalty and Irvinestown goal in close proximity put the game to bed.
It took Irvinestown 12 seconds to open their account as Conor O’Hanlon won the throw-in and drove forward before laying off to Jack Largo-Elis who pointed.
Then corner-back Paul Leonard, ventured forward to fire over and when Roslea failed to get out of their defence from the resultant kick out Joey Millar made it 0-03 to no score after three minutes.
Gary Maguire rifled over a free after a foul on Jarlath Maguire after six minutes.
Roslea eventually opened their account after 13 minutes when James McMahon converted a free as Roslea were guilty of rash shooting and passing in the opening quarter.
Josh Largo-Elis found himself in space after some patient build-up play but Adam Treanor responded with a huge score from distance.
Gary Maguire hit two points in a row, one from play and one from a free while Mattie McDermott did the same as he hit a point from play and one from a mark to leave it 0-09 to 0-02 at the break.
Niall Cosgrove hit the first point of the second-half after seven minutes but Irvinestown responded with scores from O’Hanlon and Jarlath Maguire.
Roslea then had the chance to cut the deficit to five points when Micheal Flanagan’s ball found Cosgrove who was dragged down and referee Hugh Breen awarded a penalty.
McMahon stepped up but his attempt was saved but Roslea did manage to win the ball back and a free that McMahon popped over.
Irvinestown’s next attack settled the game when O’Hanlon was buried the ball to the net to leave it 1-11 to 0-04 with 15 minutes remaining.
Roslea did respond well with a goal from Darragh Flanagan while Micheal Flanagan hit a point but Irvinestown came back with a McDermott score.
McDermott also went through on goal and opted to shot straight at the keeper with Gary Maguire free at the back pots.
A poor Roslea kick out put them under pressure and despite winning the ball back a clever dispossession by McDermott allowed him to point and while Roslea tagged on a late score it was merely a consolation as their season came to an end.
