Tempo 0-15 Derrylin 0-09
An impressive final quarter effort propelled Tempo into an Intermediate Championship semi-final as Derrylin just ran out of gas.
With 15 minutes to go, Derrylin were still firmly in the game having been on top for most of it.
But with Tiarnan Bogue and Aidan Breen leading the charge, Tempo rattled off a series of scores to run out six-point winners.
On a mizzly and windy afternoon in Tempo, it took seven minutes for the first score of the game.
Both sides had been guilty of misses before Tempo turned Derrylin over at midfield and the ball was worked to Darragh McCaffrey who punished them with a point.
Kian Prior had the chance to equalise for Derrylin but his free was short a minute later, but on 13 minutes he lofted over a ’45 before James Dolan pointed and then Prior hit a good score on the turn.
It was 0-03 to 0-02 after 20 minutes when Tiarnan Bogue drove through the Derrylin defence and shot over.
Good work from Ferghal McGovern and Dolan allowed Prior to score again.
The scores were level going into the closing five minutes as Aidan Breen pointed from a ’45 and then hit a great score from play.
Prior and Eunan McCann traded scores but Derrylin finished the half strongly.
Tempo failed to clear their lines and Diarmuid Owens scored while Prior knocked over a free to leave it 0-07 to 0-05 at the break.
Derrylin had the chance to go three ahead within a minute of the restart but again Prior failed to connect with a very scoreable free which fell short.
Tiarnan Bogue hit a free shortly after before Prior made amends to curl over a point on the turn after good work by Aaron McGoldrick.
Both sides then had a sight of goal but none could capitalise.
Matthew Jackson did well to clear a dangerous ball in around his goals and Tempo broke with Tiarnan Bogue having a shot saved by Darragh Burke but play was called back for a foul and Ben Warnock tapped over.
Tempo were pressing the Derrylin kick out and the O’Connells were finding it hard to get out of their half.
Oisin Jackson was fouled after a turnover and Tiarnan Bogue converted.
With just under 15 minutes to go a poor tempo clearance allowed Ruaidhri McGoldrick to curl over a fine effort to put Derrylin in the lead once more but it would be there final score of the match as Tempo moved through the gears, 0-09 to 0-08.
Caolan Corry levelled the game again before McCann found space to fire over.
On 50 minutes, corner-back Brendan Cassidy got up the field to hit a fine score while Derrylin were scuppering any chances they had with their intermittent attacks.
Oisin Murphy was fouled as he drove forward and it allowed Warnock to point from a free and this was followed by McCann fisting over after he picked up a spilled ball.
Aidan Breen lofted over another point as the game entered injury-time.
Tempo had Matthew Jackson to thank for saving their nerves as he made two brilliant saves as Tiarnan Bogue hit the final point of the day from a free after he and Murphy drove at the Derrylin defence to leave it 0-15 to 0-09.
