Enniskillen Athletic 0-10 Magheraveely
Magheraveely inflicted a huge 10-0 demolition of Enniskillen Athletic at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday as Dean Carroll netted five goals.
The teams drew 1-1 against each other at the end of last season as they were both relegated from the Mercer League, but Magheraveely punished a weakened Athletic side in a one-sided affair.
Saturday’s visiting side sit third in Division Two just two points off leaders Castlederg United while Athletic lie third from bottom.
Magheraveely pleased manager Lewis Bennett said after the game: “It was the most dominant game this season so far from us.
"We didn’t let Athletic breathe from the first whistle. We moved the ball fast and we also had a captain fantastic performance from Joe Williamson throughout, he didn't let the lads ease off during the game.”
After an evening opening few moments, Magheraveely then got on top of the contest and their first goal came just past the 20-minute mark.
Adam Treanor worked his way down the wing and crossed the ball into Carroll who headed home for 1-0.
Andy Little then picked up the ball and worked his way down the left wing before sending in another cross that was head by Carroll whose header sailed under the crossbar and into the net.
Treanor made it 3-0 on the stroke of halftime as he drove down the centre and side-footed a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to make it 3-0 going into the break.
A minute into the second half, Carroll made it 4-0 and completed his hat-trick as he got a touch on Paul Elliot’s shot and it swept past James Maguire in goal.
Gary Elliot then got his name on the scoresheet just a moment later as Treanor kept the ball in play on the touchline and pulled it back to Elliot who finished into the roof of the net.
An own goal with 20 minutes to go was met with another two goals in quick succession.
A deep cross was met by Warren Stewart who guided his shot on target and Patrick Sheridan had his first shot saved but finished at the second attempt for 8-0.
Carroll concluded the rout with two late goals, one a lob from 30 yards and the other flicked from a shot by Williamson.
Magheraveely will aim to build on their form as they host second-place Ballinamallard next while Athletic travel to Mountjoy United.
