The NI and Ulster Even Age Groups & Bobby Rea International Cross Country event took place in Comber on Sunday, October 20, with a strong turnout from young Fermanagh athletes.

For many, this was their first cross-country race of the season.

The day began with the U14 girls, where Kate Kelly put in a stellar performance, breezing through the finish line to claim Gold.

After recovering from injury, Kate is clearly back in form. The entire team ran well, showing great promise, but narrowly missed out on All-Ireland qualification.

Annabel Morrison competed in the U20 and senior women’s combined race, proudly representing Northern Ireland.

Annabel dominated the 6000m race, taking Gold in the U20 category with over a minute’s lead on second-place finisher Lucy Foster. She also finished an impressive third in the senior women’s race.

In the U16 boys’ race, Jack Donnelly delivered a solid performance, running with the lead pack and securing fifth place, comfortably qualifying for the All-Irelands.

The U16 girls' team showed determination, with Annabelle McKenzie leading the way to a seventh-place finish, her best Ulster result to date.

The rest of the team followed closely, earning a silver medal and setting themselves up well for the All-Irelands at Castle Irvine.

The U18 boys’ race was an exciting contest, with Harry McKenzie putting in a gritty performance to finish just behind All-Ireland Champion Caolan McFadden, securing a well-deserved silver.

The rest of the team finished strong, earning a bronze medal, marking them as a team to watch in the coming weeks.

In the U20 men's race, Frank Buchanan delivered a powerful run over the 8000m course, finishing comfortably to claim Gold in his category.

Jamie McDonnell also ran well, pushing through the windy conditions to finish strong.

A huge congratulations to all the Fermanagh athletes for their impressive performances, as they prepare for the National All-Ireland Championships at Necarne on November 17.

They are certainly making their mark in Ulster cross-country running.
