Enniskillen Skins U18 Girls 42-7 Cavan/Monaghan/Clogher Valley combined team
In testing conditions marked by biting winds, rain, and cold, the Skins U18 girls approached their first league home game with remarkable intensity and discipline.
The match started with a bang as Ciara O'Donnell took the opening pass from the formidable Sarah Johnston, powering past five CMCV defenders to score the first try, with Eve Balfour adding the conversion to make it 7-0.
Minutes later, an almost identical play saw Ciara break through the defence once again, only to be held up just short of the line. Fortunately, a well-timed support run from Rianna Mulligan secured the second try, with another successful conversion by Balfour, taking the score to 14-0.
The Skins defensive line, led by Kelly Burford, Niamh Barrett, and Jodie Thompson, was relentless, pressuring CMCV into errors. Quick hands from Amy Meeke and Sophie Moore then released Madeline Hamill, who scored from halfway. Balfour’s third conversion brought the score to 21-0.
The Skins' next try showcased a superb defensive play from Orlaith Maguire, who followed up with a kick and chase, leading to Alice Reynolds offloading to Freya Brennan to score under the posts. Balfour converted yet again, making it 28-0.
Not to be outdone, Leah Irwin powered up the left wing, set up by tireless work from Sarah Corry and Rebecca Read, to score a brilliant try. Balfour kept her flawless kicking form with another conversion, extending the lead to 35-0.
The substitutes then entered the fray, with Ellen Graham and Emma Fawcett teaming up to set up Ciara O'Donnell for her second try. Balfour's conversion closed out the first half at a commanding 42-0.
Despite the deteriorating weather, CMCV pressed hard and managed to score a deserved try, converting it to bring the score to 42-7.
The final word went to the Player of the Match, Ciara O'Donnell, who, after a superb run from Mollie Magee and a precise pass from debutant Sarah Conlin, crossed the line again. Balfour’s final conversion capped the day at 49-7, maintaining her 100 per cent record.
This outstanding performance by the Skins U18 girls in such challenging weather conditions underscores their relentless drive and team spirit. Their next fixture is at home against Ballynahinch/Omagh/Portadown on Sunday, November 17.
