There have been mixed messages regarding a potential return for Rory Gallagher to the Derry GAA hotseat.
Speculation today suggests that Derry could be about to re-appoint the manager who led them to an Ulster title in 2022 before leaving the position just days before they went on to beat Armagh in the 2023 final.
Although, there are contrasting reports, from The Irish News, saying he is not being considered for the role, however, nothing is yet confirmed.
There was heavy backlash from Derry GAA fans on social media when talks of a return unfolded earlier this year, however, it seems his appointment is now being discussed internally again.
Gallagher stepped away from the Derry job following domestic abuse allegations made by his estranged wife Nicola Gallagher.
The former Erne Gaels player had been barred temporarily from coaching but the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) reversed the decision to ban him from the organisation after a hearing back in February of this year.
Earlier this year, talks coming from Derry indicated Gallagher would not be considered for a return after his own replacement Micky Harte stepped away from the job, in July, after a disappointing season that saw the Oak Leaf County lose their grip on the Ulster title and exited the All-Ireland Championship at the quarter-final stage with a defeat to Kerry.
Malachy O’Rourke had been one of the names in the mix for the job before he was appointed as Tyrone boss in September.
Derry are the only county in Ulster that do not have a manager lined up ahead of the upcoming season.
