Tummery Athletic 2-1 Beragh Swifts

Tummery came from a goal down to win 2-1 and record their seventh league win from ten games so far this season.

Stephen Cairns gave Beragh the lead at Crawfords Lane but two second half goals from Shea Devlin and Ciaran Beacom ensured Kevy McAleer’s side would take another three points.

Speaking on the game, McAleer was left impressed with a strong Swifts side: “It was a tough game.

"We started well and had the majority of chances, we could and should have been two or three goals up, but we didn’t take our chances and got punished by the one chance Beragh did have.

"It was a good battling result against a dogged Beragh team who never lay down, super resilience shown to come back and get the result when we weren’t at our best.”

After an even start to the game, Beragh opened the scoring on 16 minutes, Eamon McGrath picked the ball up on the halfway and turned before lifting his head and spotting the run of Cairns in behind the Tummery backline, who stayed composed to tuck the ball into the bottom left corner for 1-0.

Tummery saw most of the possession after the goal and went close on a couple of occasions to levelling before the halftime whistle.

Athletic got themselves level ten minutes into the second half as Devlin continued his scoring form after netting four away to Enniskillen Rangers the game beforehand.

Gary Duffy went on a run down the wing and sent a cross into the box that was collected but spilt by Beragh goalkeeper Peter Ward.

Blaine Campbell got his body around the loose ball and found a pass before it was laid off to the oncoming Devlin, on the edge of the box, whose shot nestled into the goal for 1-1.

With just over 20 minutes to go in Dromore, another move down the left wing saw Barry Goodwin deliver a ball into the box and it fell for defender Ciaran Beacom to finish and make it 2-1.

Tummery held on to wrap the win and keep Beragh at bay in the final few moments. Both teams will take a break from league action this weekend and are both on their travels in the Junior Cup.

Beragh face Carniny Amateur & Youth while Tummery play Trojans YCG on Saturday afternoon.
