Dergview Reserves 1-4 Kesh
Kesh came from a goal behind to defeat Dergview Reserves and keep pace with the leaders in Division One.
Dylan Aiken scored the opening goal of the game for Dergview five minutes into the second half, but the in-form Ryan Campbell hit back with two goals in four minutes to turn the game on its head, and Danny Wilson and Lee Walker completed the comeback.
Kesh manager Ryan Campbell felt his team should have been well ahead at halftime, but he was pleased with the reaction they showed to falling a goal behind.
“I thought we were brilliant in the first half,” he said.
“We had three or four really good chances and we just couldn’t take them. At half time we told them just to keep doing what they were doing and it would come, but we needed to start taking some of the chances, and also to get back in transition when we lost the ball.
"I said that if they score they could end up parking the bus and it would leave it even harder for us, and that is exactly what happened.
"We went one nil down, but we got a reaction from them and everybody upped their game again and we overran them in the second half.
"When we got the first, they went into their shell a bit and we kept opening them up, so it was good.”
The Kesh boss had complained about his team’s slow start the previous week against Augher Stars, but this time around Kesh were dominant in the early stages, without having a goal to show for it.
Sam Robb and Jake Irvine both fired over the bar when well placed, Josh Flack had a shot well saved by Tiarnan McNamee, and Campbell had an effort deflected past the post as the game reached the interval goalless.
For all Kesh’s possession in the first forty five minutes, it was Dergview who took the lead five minutes into the second half when Dylan Aiken fired past Stefan McCusker. Kesh’s response was immediate, however.
Flack picked up possession on the left wing and slid a ball through for the overlapping Kyle Malone.
The full-back whipped the ball across the box to Campbell, who received possession with his back to goal and twisted and turned to find space before poking the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Four minutes later, Campbell continued his recent scoring streak with his tenth goal in four games.
Dergview thought they had nullified Kesh’s attack when they regained possession and carried the ball out of the penalty area, but Lee Walker intercepted the pass and found Campbell in space. The striker took one touch around the keeper and rolled the ball into the net.
Kesh’s third came from a quick counter-attack. With Dergview looking to push for a way back into the game Campbell broke clear down the left and squared the ball for Danny Wilson, who fired past McNamee.
Kesh wrapped up the win in the second minute of added time with another quick break, Lee Walker racing clear from his own half and firing into the far corner of the net.
