St Michael’s manager Peter Teague was making no excuses after his side’s heavy defeat to an impressive Lurgan side.

Indeed, watching St Ronan’s, it was hard to believe that they had been beaten by both St Pat’s Cavan and St Pat’s Maghera in earlier rounds.

But this big win means, that unlike St Michael’s, they will not have to face the top team from the other group in the next round.

“We were playing with the breeze in the first half and the first goal was a real sucker punch and they were able to put 15 men behind the ball," Teague said.

“So, it was very hard for us to claw back that advantage, and we missed a number of good chances as well.

“It was one of those days where everything they kicked went over the bar from all angles and we just could not finish over many chances.”

Teague added: “We conceded two goals and if you do that you are always going to be struggling, and we missed a few goal chances as well.

“It was a tough day, and we are just going to have to regroup for the next knock-out game whoever that will be against.

“It will be against the top side in the other section and that is always going to be tough.

“We ran at them a lot but they had our key men very well tied up and that was crucial too.

“We will have to take the learnings from it."

“Our boys fought to the end but Lurgan are a good side and it was a poor performance from us and we will need to improve a lot for the knockout stages.”
