Enniskillen Galaxy 0-2 Lisnarick
Lisnarick secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Enniskillen Galaxy in Division Three.
After nine consecutive defeats, goals from Niall Gormley and Simon Garrity earned them a long-awaited win, as they gained revenge for a heavy defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Lisnarick manager Tommy Britton was delighted to finally get some points on the board, and he attributed the change in fortunes to the return of several key players.
“It was good. I don’t think they were expecting it after giving us an 11-3 drubbing at the start of the season,” he said.
“We were missing lads until two or three weeks ago, but the Gaelic is finished up and we have a few now committed to us until the Gaelic starts up again.
"We had Niall Gormley back in and he is lethal in front of goal. He scored after three minutes and that set the tone. Our boys worked hard.
"Galaxy have a lot of good players all over the field but the big thing for me was to keep the press on all the time. If you let them play they could destroy you, as we knew from the previous game.
"If I was to be critical we were wasteful in the first half. We had a few chances and we didn’t want panic to start setting in after not getting a win for so long, but I thought we grew into the game well and got our second late on to seal it.
"We have Drumquin now and they gave us a bit of a battering earlier in the season too so we will be looking to build on this result now.”
Lisnarick’s rejuvenated team took only three minutes to take the lead when Peter Law flicked on a ball and Gormley’s first-time shot found the bottom corner of the net.
Lisnarick continued to press forward and Gormley struck the crossbar with an attempted lob of the goalkeeper, and Nathan Green then saved when Gormely was put through on goal.
Galaxy were creating chances of their own, but they could not get the better of Adam McBarron in the Lisnarick goal, and with two minutes remaining Lisnarick sealed the win with a second when Gormley had a shot saved, but Garrity pounced on the loose ball to fire in the match-winning goal.
